Literacy History

I first started learning letter when I was in kindergarten. I remember their being letters on the wall and words associated to them. I don't remember the first book I read on my own. When I was in kindergarten I remember my teacher Ms. W reading to us. I didn't have a favorite book but I did have a favorite series. When I first learned to read and write I felt accomplished because I never knew how it fealt to read. I remember my first grade teacher putting words on the board and told people to read them. Then I remember me reading a small word I think it was "cat". That was the first time I learned how to read. I then remember singing the ABC's a lot and tried to read everything I could.

Nightjohn Illiterate

If I were illiterate I would feel bad for myself because while everyone else can read I wouldn't. I would also feel dumb for the same reason. My life would be so different. If I wouldn't be able to read thing, I would be so bored because you literally need to read everything. If I couldn't write neither life would also be different because I wouldn't be able to text or write things for school. Life would be so different if I were illiterate.

Summary

In the story about Jackie Robinson he explained many things he had to go through, including trash talking, getting hit with bean balls and getting food thrown at him, and a lot more horrible things. Jackie was a really good player that was picked up by Branch who wanted him on the Dodgers. Before Jackie, Charley Thomas was discriminated at a hotel with his team, Branch felt really guilty. Jackie was really cynical guy with a lot of guts to keep his anger in and not attack the people who called him and his family bad things. After everything he went through he continued to be a very successful baseball player.

Theme

In my book Stellaluna, Stellaluna fell from her moms wings onto a twin on a tree. She got tired and fell into a nest where she got along with bird family for a little bit until the mama bird forced Stellaluna to follow rules. When Stellaluna found out she could fly she got carried away and flew far from the birds. When she flew away she found her mother and went back to the birds. The birds tried flying like Stellaluna but couldn't see since it was night. Stellaluna saved them and carried them back to the nest. The theme of the story is to appreciate your friends while you have them because they might play an important role later in your life.

Paper Reflection

I think I did well on the bibliographies because I didn't have to much trouble on the end organizing them. The most challenging part of the paper was the information part because it was hard looking for some new information, since most of the websites talked about its eyesight. My goal for my next paper is to be more ahead of myself and word extra hard for I won't be in a hurry at the end and stay after school.

Research

Notes:

Eyesight

Very well far eyesight
Nut much is known about why they see so many colors
16 types of color receptors

Paraphrase:
Maris shrimp have very well eyesight, they can see very far away. Also they have sixteen color receptors compared to three a human has making mantis shrimp see extremely well and see colors humans can't see.

Paraphrasing

The Zaatari

Step one: Notes

         -Paragraph 1
- UNHRC built a refugee camp
- It took two weeks to build it
- It was built in July 2002
- One of the largest camps in the world
- If it was a city it would be the fourth largest city in Jordan

         -Paragraph 2
- Housing, and Electricity are free
-Water is delivered several times a day
-Water shortages
-Residents can only bathe and wash their clothes once every few weeks

Paragraph

In Jordan the UNHRC (an organization that helps refugees) built a large camp in the span of two weeks. The camp is home to thousands of refugees and would be one of the largest cities in Jordan if it was a city.

The camp is a good place for refugees since electricity, housing, and water is free. But the camp still faces shortages with water even though it's delivered a couple times a day, meaning that residents have to be resourceful with it.
